Notes: All-day breakfast with house-cured meats and sausages

Dish Cookhouse is in the most unexpected, off the beaten path location I've encountered so far in my blogging. It's pretty close to the airport in Sidney, but tucked off the main road near Slegg Lumber. The only reason it was on my radar at all is that one of the other regulars at Clive's was raving about it.

It reads like a classic, rustic diner, with vinyl table cloths, booths, and art featuring farm animals. Nothing fancy or large, but with a pretty big menu for the overall size of the restaurant. What really, really sets Dish apart (aside from the location) is that they make their sausage and smoke their own meats in-house. This means your classic breakfast dishes are taken up to a new level of fresh & delicious.

French Toast with Sausage and Eggs
French Toast with Sausage and Eggs
My partner-in-food-and-life opted for the sweet choice this morning, although with a side of savoury. The french toast was pretty tasty, nice and thick with perfect bread for the job. However, the sausage is what really stands out in my head. There were a few options, but I think we opted for bratwurst? (It's been too long between the meal and the writing... so busy). Either way, it was probably the best sausage I have had with a breakfast meal ever.

Corned beef can be kind of a funny-tasting dish, but the house-smoked meat here was really was incredible! Super savoury, just the right amount of grease and meshed well with all the other ingredients. The other ingredients were pretty delicious too - nicely crisped potato and soft-poached eggs done properly. Just the right amount of cheese on top finished it off nicely.

We were here to use up our Groupon, and ended up sitting outside in a little patch of the sun that we have been so lacking in this spring. It was harder to get a gauge on the service without being inside, but we certainly weren't neglected and the server was friendly and helpful.
